Arizona Auto Insurance Requirements
The ultimate goal of state laws when it comes to insurance is to keep all motorists safe and to ensure that, in the event of an accident, the interests of everyone involved in the accident are protected. This is no different in the state of Arizona. State minimum liability insurance standards are set by the state government in the amount of $15,000 for bodily injury, $30,000 for total amount of injuries, and $10,000 for property damages.
INSURANCE IS REQUIRED
There is no escaping the insurance laws. If you are an owner or an operator of a vehicle, you must carry at least the state minimum liability insurance on that vehicle. Arizona law requires all vehicles to be insured immediately upon purchase or registration. While many states have a certain grace period to allow the owner time to get insurance in order, Arizona does not.
Even if you are only driving through the state to see one of the many attractions, you should make sure that your insurance company is licensed there so that you avoid a rather large inconvenience that could interrupt your trip, especially if you would be involved in an accident.
If you are stopped in Arizona by a police officer, they are required to ask you to show proof of your insurance. If you cannot, you could encounter such ramifications as losing your license and/or vehicle registration.
The numbers listed above are only the state minimum that is required to operate a vehicle. If you should be in an accident, the costs could very easily add up too much more than what is required by state law. If you get caught in this type of situation, you can become personally liable for the remaining costs. This could be much more costly in the long run so it is highly recommended that you acquire more than just the minimum.
