Colorado Auto Insurance Requirements

Everyone who drives a vehicle in the United States must purchase at least the minimum liability coverage required by their state in order to legally drive on the public road systems of that state. In the state of Colorado it is more than recommended. If the driver of a vehicle is caught without proof of at least the state minimum insurance coverage, the ramifications range anywhere from fines to suspensions.

The very minimum that is acceptable in this state is $25,000 for personal injury, $50,000 for more than one personal injury, and no less than $15,000 for property damage in one accident. Even if you are only living in Colorado for seasonal work you must still comply with these minimum insurance limits while living inside state lines. However, you may be able to be exempt for the times you are not living in Colorado.

BUYING INSURANCE

For as long as you are living and driving in the United States you must abide by the state insurance laws of your current state of residence. When you are buying insurance, it is extremely important to your protection to keep in mind that state laws are the bare minimum you can have to drive legally. These are not, however, the recommended limits for insurance coverage. Experts in the insurance market recommend that $1 million in coverage is the only amount to provide sufficient coverage for all types of accidents.
